Wedding Photography FAQs
Everything couples ask me before they book. If your question is not here, get in touch and I will answer it directly.
About Me and My Approach
Who is the best wedding photographer in Dublin? There are a lot of talented photographers working in Dublin and across Ireland. What I do specifically is documentary wedding photography — relaxed, unposed and focused on what actually happens on the day rather than what I can arrange. If that is the style you are drawn to, take a look at my portfolio and see if my work feels right for you.
What is documentary wedding photography? It is an approach to wedding photography that prioritises real moments over posed ones. I work quietly in the background, following the day as it unfolds and capturing the emotions, interactions and details that make your day yours. The result is a gallery that puts you back in the room rather than one that looks like a fashion shoot. You can read more about how I work on my about page.
Do you only shoot in a documentary style? Primarily yes, but every wedding includes a relaxed portrait session and family group photographs. The documentary approach means the rest of the day is unposed, but you will still get the images you need of the two of you together and the key groups. I just do not spend the whole afternoon directing people.
Are you available to shoot outside Dublin? Yes. I photograph weddings across Ireland and internationally. My most regular venues are in Dublin, Wicklow, Kildare, Meath and Leinster generally, but I travel wherever the wedding is. See my wedding photographer Ireland guide for a sense of where I work most often.
Pricing and Packages
How much does a wedding photographer cost in Ireland? Wedding photography in Ireland typically ranges from €1,500 to €6,500 depending on experience, coverage length and what is included. My packages start at €1,650 and go up to €6,150. Full details including exactly what is in each package are on my packages page.
What is included in your packages? All packages include full day coverage, an online gallery with high resolution downloadable images and a print release. Higher packages include a second photographer, luxury album, film photography and the content creator add-on. See the full package breakdown here.
What is the content creator add-on? It is a cinematic vertical highlight film plus ceremony and speeches footage, all delivered within 72 hours of your wedding. It is designed for couples who want beautiful shareable video alongside their photography without the cost of a separate videographer. Full details on the content creation page.
Do you offer payment plans? Yes. A booking deposit secures your date and the balance is split across the lead-up to the wedding. Get in touch to discuss what works for you.
Booking and Logistics
How far in advance should I book? For peak Saturdays in summer, 12 to 18 months ahead is typical. Some popular dates go even earlier than that. I take a limited number of weddings per year so if you have a date in mind, it is worth checking availability sooner rather than later.
How do I check if you are available for my date? The quickest way is to send me a message through the contact page with your date and venue and I will come back to you quickly.
Do you do engagement shoots? Yes and I recommend them. It gives us a chance to work together before the wedding day so you are comfortable in front of the camera and I get a feel for how you move and interact. It also makes the portrait session on the wedding day much more relaxed.
Do you travel abroad for weddings? Yes. I have photographed destination weddings in Europe and beyond. My Ireland destination wedding guide covers what international couples planning an Irish wedding need to know, but if you are planning something outside Ireland entirely I am happy to discuss it.
On the Day
How long do you stay at the wedding? It depends on the package. My full coverage packages run from getting ready through to the first dances and beyond. Shorter packages have a defined start and end time. The packages page has the specifics.
How many photographs will we receive? Roughly 50 to 80 edited images per hour of coverage, depending on how the day unfolds. A full day wedding typically delivers between 500 and 800 images. You will receive every iimage that meets my quality standard — I do not hold back good photos to upsell albums.
Do you bring backup equipment? Yes, always. Two camera bodies, multiple lenses and backup lighting are standard on every wedding I photograph. Equipment failure is something I plan for, not something I leave to chance.
What happens if you are ill on the day? I have a network of trusted photographers I can call on in an emergency. It has never happened but the contingency exists and I take it seriously.
Will you be directing us all day? No. A documentary approach means the day runs at its own pace. I will guide you briefly for the portrait session and I will make sure family groups happen efficiently, but the rest of the day you will barely notice I am there.
Venues and Locations
Do you know my venue? I have photographed at most of the major venues across Leinster and beyond. For venues I cover regularly I have written detailed guides including Carton House, Luttrellstown Castle, Cliff at Lyons, Powerscourt, Ballymagarvey Village and The Merrion Hotel. If your venue is not listed, ask me directly.
What are the best wedding venues in Dublin? My Ultimate Guide to Dublin Weddings covers the venues I recommend most often and what makes each one different from a photography point of view.
What are the best castle wedding venues in Ireland? My Top 10 Castle Wedding Venues guide covers the castles I photograph most regularly with honest notes on what each is like to work in.
After the Wedding
When will we receive our photographs? Edited galleries are typically delivered within four to six weeks of the wedding. If you have the content creator add-on, your highlight film is delivered within 72 hours
How are the images delivered? Via a private online gallery where you can download full resolution files, share with family and order prints directly. The gallery stays live for twelve months.
Do you offer wedding albums? Yes. Luxury printed albums are available as part of higher packages or as an add-on. See the packages page for options.
Can we share our photos on social media? Absolutely. Your gallery comes with a full personal use licence which covers social media sharing. I only ask that you credit me if you post them publicly.
One More Thing
If you have read this far and like what you see, the next step is simple. Check my availability for your date and let us have a conversation about your wedding. I only take a small number of weddings each year and I would love yours to be one of them.
