Meet Kevin

"How I Got Here"

Who is Kevin Kheffache?

I'm one of Ireland's most internationally awarded documentary wedding photographers, ranked top 25 in the world and top 3 in Ireland by This Is Reportage and top 3 in Ireland by Fearless Photographers. I photograph weddings across Ireland and abroad without posing or direction. (Read more on my Wedding Photographer Ireland page. I also own and run Kheffache Studios with my wife (and wedding photographer Annie). As former President of the Irish Professional Photographers and Videographers Association (IPPVA) from 2019-2021 and founder of Doc Day, one of Europe's largest wedding photography conferences, I combine industry leadership with artistic excellence.

How did you get into photography?

I've always been curious. I was “that” kid who wanted to know how things worked and when I was around ten or eleven, my neighbour Michael let me loose in his attic darkroom. He was in his seventies, retired and had a stack of old cameras and a telescope he used to photograph the stars and space. I LOVED it.

I left photography for a while in college but came back to it in my late twenties and since then have never really put the camera down. Through a series of lovely events, I find myself a decade into documentary wedding photography, married to one of the world's best documentary wedding photographers (Annie) and being a dad to two of the loveliest boys, Max and Joshie.

And to be honest Annie & the boys changed everything.

Why documentary?

After a while, photography stopped being about the "how" or the technical. I see how fast life moves, how fleeting it all is, and simply put; I love that well-crafted photography can freeze those little moments.

While I'm grateful for the awards and recognition from Fearless Photographers and This Is Reportage, what drives me is capturing the real story of your wedding day. The quiet in-between bits, the unrepeatable flashes of emotion, the beauty you didn't even know was happening.

How do you work on the day?

My style is relaxed and natural. I won't ask you to fake a laugh or "do that again." I'm there to document your wedding as it really was. I believe the best photographs happen when you can forget the camera even exists.

I like to blend in with your guests, move quietly through your day, and just let the moments unfold naturally. Weddings are typically joy-filled days where people are happy and looking their best. A documentary approach reflects that: genuine and timeless.

My work has taken me across Ireland and internationally, from intimate city celebrations in Dublin to breathtaking castle weddings throughout the Irish countryside. I know my venues well and have photographed in almost every county in Ireland.

Much of my approach comes from years spent doing street photography, which I wrote about here.

If you want to understand how I work on the day itself, from getting ready through to the dancefloor — I've written about it in detail.

Why do couples book you?

The couples I work with want more than just a record of how their day looked. They want to remember how it felt. Couples tend to say that they hardly noticed me on their wedding day, and I pride myself on being present but unobtrusive.

What do you do outside weddings?

When I'm not photographing weddings, you'll often find me with Annie and our boys, exploring new locations or working on personal projects. Through Doc Day and other speaking engagements I also love sharing knowledge and building community with photographers across Europe and helping shape the future of wedding photography.

I’m also a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I’m not sure how much that matters to the wedding day though :)

Ready to talk about your wedding?

If you're looking for a Dublin wedding photographer who will document your day with honesty and artistry, and who is ranked top 25 in the world and top 3 in Ireland for it, I'd love to hear from you. No two weddings are the same, and I come to each one curious about what makes yours different.
