Who is Kevin Kheffache?
I'm a documentary wedding photographer based in Dún Laoghaire, Dublin. I photograph weddings across Ireland and abroad as they happen, with relaxed portraits and family photos included. This Is Reportage ranks me in the top 25 wedding photojournalists in the world and the top 3 in Ireland. Fearless Photographers has me in the top 100 in the world and the top 3 in Ireland, and the WPJA has me in its top 25.
I run Kheffache Studios with my wife Annie, who is one of the best documentary wedding photographers in the world. I was President of the Irish Professional Photographers and Videographers Association (IPPVA) from 2019 to 2021 and I founded Doc Day, one of Europe's largest wedding photography conferences. How did you get into photography?
I've always been curious. I was “that” kid who wanted to know how everything worked. When I was ten or eleven, my neighbour Michael let me loose in his attic darkroom. He was in his seventies, retired, with a stack of old cameras and a telescope he used to photograph the stars. I LOVED it.
I left photography for a while in college but came back to it in my late twenties and I've never really put the camera down since. A series of lovely events later, I'm a decade into documentary wedding photography, married to Annie and dad to two of the loveliest boys, Max and Joshie. To be honest, Annie and the boys changed everything.
Film has stayed with me ever since. Today digital is the foundation of every wedding I photograph, and for couples who choose analogue I shoot 35mm and medium-format film alongside it. More about analogue wedding photography
How I work.
Why documentary?
After a while photography stopped being about the technical side. Life moves fast and it's all so fleeting. I love that a well made photograph can hold on to those small moments.
I'm grateful for the awards and the recognition from Fearless Photographers and This Is Reportage, but what drives me is the real story of your wedding day. The quiet in-between bits, the flashes of emotion that never happen twice, the beauty you didn't even know was happening.
How do you work on the day?
Relaxed and natural. I won't ask you to fake a laugh or “do that again”. I'm there to document your wedding as it really was. The best photographs happen when you forget the camera is there.
I blend in with your guests, move quietly through the day and let it unfold. Weddings are joyful days full of people who love you. A documentary approach keeps all of that honest.
My work has taken me across Ireland and abroad, from intimate city weddings in Dublin to castle weddings in the Irish countryside. I've photographed in almost every county in Ireland and I know my venues well.

When I'm not at a wedding.
What do you do outside weddings?
When I'm not photographing weddings you'll usually find me with Annie and our boys, exploring somewhere new or working on personal projects. Through Doc Day and speaking at other events I love sharing what I know and building a community with photographers across Europe.
I'm also a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I'm not sure how much that matters on your wedding day though :)
Who I'm for.
You'd rather be at your wedding than pose for it. You care more about how the day felt than how it looked on a mood board. You want the nerves before the ceremony, the speech that went off script and the dance floor at midnight, just as they were. If that sounds like you, we'll get on.
If you're after a long list of posed set-ups or a day directed around the camera, I'm probably not the right fit. That's okay too.
Why do couples book you?
The couples I work with want more than a record of how their day looked. They want to remember how it felt. Couples often tell me they hardly noticed me on the day. I take that as the best compliment there is.
