The Dean, Dublin

Kirsten & Karim

As much as I love country house festivals or the drama (and great light) of Irish castles, Dublin City centre weddings are always cool. I love the idea that Kirsten and Karim will walk past the place where they got married on their way to work or that as they’re saying their vows, taking in the biggest event of their lives, there’s a whole city right outside the window just going about it’s normal hustle and bustle completely unaware or them.

Only 12 people heard them say those vows in an intimate little ceremony in the Dean Hotel in Dublin and then 60 or so more friends joined them for drinks and a party, in a very city bar where every night is drinks and a party.

For now at least in a post-Covid world, smaller simpler weddings will probably be a big part of our lives. With so much lost in 2020 I think we can find a really bright side to this change. To be married in front of only the people you couldn’t bear not to have there, in a day designed around just getting married, and celebrating it, is a beautiful thing when you think about it. As a photographer it’s a huge privilege to be invited into that kind of intimacy. With the trimmings paired back, we all still want the photos of the people we love.
