Anglers Rest Wedding Photographer | Dublin Wedding Celebration

There are some weddings that feel like a perfect reflection of the couple. Lorna and Andrew’s day at The Anglers Rest was exactly that. Easygoing, full of laughter, and surrounded by family and friends.

The Anglers Rest has always been one of my favourite Dublin venues to photograph. It sits quietly by the river in the Strawberry Beds, tucked away just enough to feel like a countryside escape while still being minutes from the city. The light there is beautiful. It’s soft, warm and flattering, and the mix of stone, wood and greenery gives every photo a timeless feel.

Feel free to check out some of my other favorite Dublin venues in this article.

A Calm Morning in Maynooth

Lorna got ready at home in Maynooth with her bridesmaids Niamh, Lisa, Rachel and Eilis. The morning was relaxed with music playing, hair and makeup by Leah Mass and Sarah Boyle, and kids running in and out of the rooms. I love mornings like that because they give space for genuine moments to happen naturally. A few laughs, a quiet pause, and a deep breath before everything begins.

Andy was nearby with his groomsmen, getting ready and trying not to lose the cufflinks. The nerves were light and the excitement obvious.

A Family Ceremony in Porterstown

Their ceremony took place at St Mochtas Church, Porterstown, where Andy’s uncle, Father John Dunphy, officiated. It made the whole thing feel deeply personal. With around 110 guests, it was the perfect size for connection and atmosphere.

During the vows, there were a few happy tears, some big smiles and a couple of kids quietly entertaining themselves in the pews. The kind of small details that make the day real. Outside the church, friends gathered to hug, chat and wait for what came next.

The Vintage Red Bus Party

When Lorna and Andrew stepped out of the church, their vintage red bus was waiting. It looked incredible against the sky and quickly became a talking point. Everyone piled on, champagne was popped and before long there was music, singing and a full-on mini party happening on the way to the Anglers Rest.

From a photographer’s point of view, it was gold. People relaxed completely. There was movement, laughter, glasses clinking, and that rare mix of chaos and joy that you can’t stage. Those candid moments are the ones you look back on and feel the day all over again.

A Perfect Confetti Moment

When the bus pulled up outside The Anglers Rest, the guests spilled out and gathered around for a small confetti run. It wasn’t planned to be a big moment but it turned out brilliantly. The confetti caught in the air just as Lorna and Andrew walked through it laughing.

The hero shot from the day came from that split second. The two of them smiling, surrounded by colour and movement, the venue just out of frame. It summed up the whole day. Joyful, unposed and completely them.

Why The Anglers Rest Works So Well for Photography

There’s something special about the way the light hits the front of the venue. The big windows and warm interiors create a natural glow that makes everyone look good. The staff, led by Agata, are always kind and calm which helps everything flow smoothly.

Outdoors, the river and trees give you options for portraits without ever needing to leave the property. Inside, the combination of wooden textures, fairy lights and stone walls means every part of the day looks warm and cinematic. Whether it’s a quiet drink at the bar or a packed dance floor, it photographs beautifully.

Dinner, Speeches and Dancing

Dinner was served in the Phoenix Room, where candles flickered and conversations filled the air. Speeches were short and full of laughs, exactly as planned. The band Selky started up soon after and the room transformed. People who had been chatting quietly an hour earlier were now out on the floor, shoes off and having the time of their lives.

That’s what I love about the Anglers Rest. It feels alive from start to finish.

Photography Tips for Couples Getting Married at The Anglers Rest

  1. Make time for a few portraits around golden hour. The terrace and nearby lane glow beautifully in evening light.

  2. Keep the confetti close to the entrance. The narrow space means it hangs in the air and looks amazing in photos.

  3. The riverside area is perfect for relaxed couple shots if you want greenery without leaving the venue.

  4. If you’re using a vintage car or bus, park it slightly off to one side of the entrance so guests can gather naturally around it.

  5. Trust the flow of the day. The venue’s layout means you can move easily between spaces without losing the relaxed feel.

Why Choose Me as Your Anglers Rest Wedding Photographer

I’ve photographed several weddings at the Anglers Rest, and each one feels unique. My approach is quiet and documentary. I watch, anticipate and shoot the real moments rather than creating them.

If you’re planning your wedding at this venue and want photographs that feel natural, full of life and true to your story, I’d love to chat.
