Global Wedding Photography Awards & Rankings

Choosing a wedding photographer is a big decision. You want someone who will not only document the day but also anticipate those fleeting moments you’ll want to remember forever. Awards aren’t everything, but they are a strong signal of consistency, creativity and trust.

As a documentary wedding photographer based in Dublin, I’ve been honoured to receive multiple awards from the Wedding Photojournalist Association (WPJA). These awards recognise photographers worldwide who capture weddings with authenticity, emotion and originality — the very qualities I value most in my work.

What Are the WPJA Awards?

The WPJA (Wedding Photojournalist Association) is an international body of photographers who specialise in a candid, documentary approach. Unlike traditional awards that might reward staged or styled images, the WPJA celebrates real storytelling — unscripted laughter, tears, joy and chaos.

Each year, thousands of images are judged by a panel of respected photojournalists and editors, including Pulitzer Prize winners. Awards are given across categories, with Gold, Blue and Purple distinctions marking the very best examples of wedding storytelling.

For couples, these awards are a reassurance: when you book a WPJA award-winning photographer, you’re working with someone recognised for capturing real moments beautifully.

My Awards & Recognition

Since entering the WPJA awards, I’ve been lucky enough to win across multiple rounds.

  • Gold Awards: The highest recognition, awarded when the majority of judges mark an image as outstanding. I’ve received two Golds so far, and they mean a lot because four out of four judges picked them as winners.

  • Blue & Purple Awards: Recognition for creativity, candid storytelling and technical excellence in documentary wedding photography.

  • Global Ranking Points: Each award contributes to my place on the WPJA Global Ranking System, which tracks the top wedding photojournalists worldwide.

These awards aren’t just numbers. They are a reminder that every wedding I photograph — whether in Dublin, Wicklow, Meath or further afield — has the potential to create images powerful enough to stand alongside the best in the world.

Why Awards Matter When Choosing a Photographer

There are many brilliant wedding photographers in Ireland, and awards are only one piece of the puzzle. But here’s why they matter:

  1. Consistency – Awards show that a photographer produces high-quality work across different weddings, venues and lighting situations.

  2. Peer Recognition – Being judged by respected editors and photojournalists means the work holds up to international standards.

  3. Storytelling Skill – Documentary awards, in particular, reward the ability to capture moments as they unfold naturally — something no staged shot can replicate.

  4. Trust & Reassurance – Couples know they’re booking someone who has proven their craft, time and time again.
