Brooklodge, Co. Wicklow

Sarah-Kate & James

BrookLodge holds a special place in our hearts as Annie and I got married there ourselves. We got married at Christmas, which has its own winter charm, but shooting a summer wedding together on a perfect day in Brooklodge always gives us both a bit of FOMO. There can’t be a better place to get married than a clearing in a forest by a stream in front of just your closest friends. Not really on option in winter if you still want them to be your friends.

At one point in the ceremony the summer breeze picked up the marriage registration papers and blew the top sheet into the stream. Gasps turned to laughter (led by Sarah cracking up) as at least two groomsmen went into the stream after it. This wasn’t a day for keeping your clothes pristine “for the photos” (is any day the day for that?) It was a day for tears of joy (and the other mixed emotions of the lives that get you to this point), drinks in the sun with old friends, great music al fresco and laughing at the unexpected moments of life that make the stories you tell your grandkids. That’s what weddings are about. And we can all only dream that when you have that kind of day it’ll happen under a clear blue sky.
